This position is Remote to work with a US Company; you will require to have Citizenship or a work permit from Costa Rica to apply for this role.
Role summary
We are looking for an experienced Semantic Modeling Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft data architecture, Power BI semantic models, dimensional modeling, and enterprise data warehousing.
This role will focus on designing and optimizing enterprise-scale semantic models for large datasets. The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in DAX and T-SQL/SQL, strong experience with Tabular Editor and Tabular Object Model (TOM), and hands-on experience optimizing query performance, connections, and memory utilization within Microsoft Fabric.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain enterprise-scale semantic models within Microsoft Fabric.
- Develop scalable dimensional models using star schema architecture.
- Design and maintain fact tables, dimension tables, and Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCDs).
- Create and manage relationships, hierarchies, KPIs, calculated measures, and other semantic model components.
- Develop complex and advanced DAX measures directly within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI semantic models.
- Write and optimize T-SQL/SQL queries supporting analytical and reporting workloads.
- Optimize semantic models for large-scale datasets and enterprise reporting requirements.
- Tune data connections, query execution, model performance, and memory utilization within Microsoft Fabric.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across semantic models and underlying datasets.
- Use Tabular Editor to develop, manage, optimize, and maintain tabular models.
- Apply Tabular Object Model (TOM) concepts to support advanced semantic model development and management.
- Establish appropriate relationships and data structures to ensure model accuracy, usability, and performance.
- Apply enterprise data warehousing and dimensional modeling best practices when designing analytical solutions.
- Collaborate with BI Developers, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and business stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into scalable semantic models.
- Troubleshoot data modeling, DAX, SQL, and performance issues.
- Ensure semantic models are maintainable, scalable, and optimized for downstream Power BI reporting and analytics.
Requirements – Must-haves
- Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Fabric.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft data architecture and modern Microsoft analytics technologies.
- Strong experience developing Power BI semantic models.
- Deep understanding of dimensional modeling and enterprise data warehousing concepts.
- Proven experience designing star schemas.
- Strong experience designing and maintaining fact and dimension tables.
- Experience implementing Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCDs).
- Advanced proficiency with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions).
- Advanced T-SQL/SQL skills, including query and performance optimization.
- Hands-on experience creating relationships, hierarchies, KPIs, and advanced measures within semantic models.
- Hands-on experience with Tabular Editor.
- Strong understanding of Tabular Object Model (TOM) concepts.
- Experience optimizing Microsoft Fabric solutions for large-scale datasets.
- Experience tuning connections, query performance, and memory utilization.
- Strong understanding of semantic model performance optimization techniques.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities for complex data and performance issues.
- Ability to translate business and analytical requirements into scalable data and semantic modeling solutions.

- Experience designing semantic models for enterprise-wide reporting and analytics environments.
- Experience with complex Power BI and Microsoft Fabric implementations.
- Experience automating semantic model development or management using TOM.
- Experience supporting high-volume or performance-sensitive analytical workloads.
- Experience establishing enterprise standards and best practices for dimensional and semantic modeling.
- Exposure to broader Microsoft Fabric capabilities across data engineering, data warehousing, and business intelligence.
