This position is Remote to work with a US Company; you will require to have Citizenship or a work permit from Costa Rica to apply for this role.

Role summary
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-performance desktop applications, utilizing extensive Java Swing expertise to support US-based business operations. You will focus on writing clean, scalable code and ensuring the technical stability of complex UI components.

Responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain desktop applications using Java and the Swing framework.
• Implement responsive UI components and ensure seamless event handling within the EDT.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient Java code following industry best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex bugs within legacy Swing codebases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate desktop clients with backend services.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure alignment with project standards and performance goals.
• Execute unit and integration tests to maintain high software reliability.
• Optimize application performance and resource usage for a smooth user experience.

Requirements – Must-haves 

• 5+ years of professional experience in Java development.
• Advanced knowledge of Java Swing (Layout Managers, custom components, and multithreading).
• Strong understanding of the Java Collections Framework and Core Java.
• Experience with SQL and interacting with relational databases.
• Proven ability to navigate and improve existing complex codebases.
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and standard build tools (Maven/Gradle).
• Solid understanding of the full SDLC and Agile methodologies.
• Strong communication skills for daily collaboration with US stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves 

• Familiarity with JavaFX or other desktop UI toolkits.
• Knowledge of modernizing legacy Java applications.
• Experience with JIRA and Confluence for task management.
